Judge Suzan Baucum is a native Nevadan. She graduated from Western High School, received her Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science from Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota and received her Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Idaho School of Law where she served as the Notes and Comments Editor of the Idaho Law Review.
Judge Baucum’s legal career covers a wide range of law. After completing an Internship with the Ada County Prosecutor’s Office where she prosecuted both civil and criminal cases, Baucum joined a law firm, in Reno, Nevada where, she handled criminal, personal injury, real estate and general business law. She also served as a State Training Specialist and Staff Attorney for the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges. During her service as the Executive Director of the Nevada Law Foundation, a non-profit organization created by the Nevada Supreme Court, Baucum provided legal representation to those who are legally disadvantaged, victims of domestic violence, children in need of protection of the juvenile court and senior citizens.
During the 2010 calendar year, Judge Baucum sat on the bench 150 days as a Judge Pro Tem for the Las Vegas Justice Court, Las Vegas Municipal Court and the North Las Vegas Justice Court. Elected as a Justice of the Peace in Department 13 in November 2010 for a six year term, Judge Baucum hears one of the DUI calendars.
