The Las Vegas Justice Court is a limited jurisdiction court. The caseload is restricted to particular types of cases or actions as prescribed by the Nevada Revised Statutes.
- Determine whether felony and gross misdemeanor cases have enough evidence to be bound over to the Eight Judicial District Court for trial.
- Adjudicates traffic cases, misdemeanor criminal cases, general civil cases (amounts up to $10,000), small claims (up to $10,000), summary evictions, as well as temporary protection orders (domestic violence or stalking and harassment).
Las Vegas Justice Court has sixteen elected judges and three full-time judicially appointed hearing masters. The Office of the Las Vegas Justice Court Administrator performs the executive functions of the court to enable the judicial officers to focus on adjudication of cases.
